About ChatGPT.Edu @ Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
We are pleased to introduce ChatGPT.Edu, a secure and adaptive conversational AI tool from OpenAI, now available to all currently registered medical and graduate students at Icahn Mount Sinai, along with a cohort of faculty, researchers, and staff.
Powered by OpenAI's latest models, ChatGPT.Edu assists our community to teach, learn, research, and connect and advances the School's Framework for scholarly use of AI.
This initiative is the result of a close collaboration between the Scholarly and Research Technologies team, the Department of Medical Education, the Graduate School leadership, and OpenAI. ChatGPT.Edu is available through an institutional agreement between Icahn Mount Sinai and OpenAI to ensure our data will be securely stored and won't be leveraged to train OpenAI's models.
Attend AI workshops:
The Levy Library team has developed open workshops on AI fundamentals and focused sessions for educators and mentors exploring AI in teaching, research and scholarly activities. Visit AI events at Mount Sinai to learn more.
Benefits of ChatGPT.Edu:
Enhanced security: ChatGPT.Edu provides strict privacy standards. No Mount Sinai data or prompts will be used to train OpenAI's models.
Always available: secure access to ChatGPT.Edu via your Mount Sinai email address & password is available anytime on your mobile, desktop, and web application.
Personalized support: Get tailored answers to unique questions and challenges. Unlike the free version, you can easily create and share tailored versions of ChatGPT for specific tasks.
Leading AI models: ChatGPT.Edu provides access to the latest models for advanced reasoning.
Access to ChatGPT.Edu:
All current ISMMS medical and graduate students will receive an email with instructions to claim their account after signing an end-user attestation.
As our limited number of licenses are prioritized for students, a select cohort of educators, researchers, and staff, determined by leadership, will also receive accounts.
Limitations to be Aware of:
Restricted input: No personally identifiable information/protected health information should be input into ChatGPT.Edu. Do not paste any data from the EHR.
Accuracy: ChatGPT may produce confident but inaccurate information (hallucinations), provide outdated sources, and struggle with niche or specialized academic topics. The model may oversimplify nuanced or multi-faceted academic concepts, leading to incomplete understanding.
Ethical concerns: it's the users' responsibility to ensure proper attribution for any content generated by using ChatGPT.Edu. Content generated by ChatGPT.Edu may inadvertently reflects biases present in its training data, potentially perpetuating stereotypes or skewed perspectives.
Non-textual, non-numeric data: as a language model, ChatGPT cannot directly analyze genomic sequences or other non-textual, non-numeric data, though it can assist in supportive tasks such as generating code snippets or interpreting textual outputs.
Environmental impact: using ChatGPT requires significant computational power, both for training large language models and for running them at scale, which contributes to a substantial carbon footprint due to energy-intensive data center operations.
